OOC: Feedback on character decisions wanted

Looking for feedback, folks, so please comment here or contact me on Twitter or via e-mail.

Casiella Truza is my main character. She’s got 16m skill points, a fun RP personality, and lots of people know her. I have so much fun playing her. Mostly exploration, research, trade, and industry, with a smattering of other skills to survive out there. I’ll keep her as long as I play EVE. I sold another PVP character once and really regret it now.

But I have another character, Raimo Hamateha, who just does research. Right now, he does standard material efficiency research very, very well, and I have him moving toward invention (working on Electronic Upgrades at the moment).

The third piece in all this is that I received my EVE Online Special Edition box today, with a few in-game items you can only get if you use the 60-day time card to create a new account. The in-game items include a cool shuttle (with 20m3 cargo space) and a certificate to give you sufficient standings to jump right into factional warfare.

So right now, I have this idea to sell Raimo and start a new character for PVP, rather than keep confusing Casiella’s training.

Writing this post, I’ve nearly answered my own question – of course it would work just fine – but what do you think? Does it make sense to have a covops / industrial / research main and a PVP alt? Or should I just apply the 60 day time card to my main and content myself with one character?

If you have the money for two accounts, I say go for it. An account devoted to making money will be able to pay for itself and other accounts if you work at it enough, so that should allow you to indulge in extra accounts, such as for PvP.

I played the one character game for a long time, and I must say having that extra account handy just for things like scouting is incredibly useful. Speccing for PvE or PvP with your accounts also makes for highly proficient characters, without the half assing that occurs when trying to do everything with one character.

While I do everything on one account (pirating and exploration) I would say if you want to get into PVP back again fast a second account would work out best. Also depends where you want to PVP. If you are going to go blinky red or even just militia but you rely on hisec for your industrial activities you have a problem.

Then again it depends also what kind of PVP you are looking at. Rifters are pwnmobiles and take hardly any training. And the skills are used also in missioning and other PVE encounters.

First off, I’ve heard that the timecard from the box can only be used to start a new account. So applying it to your main won’t work.

You could use the Timecard to start a new PvP character, but then I would swallow the character transfer fee from my Research character and move him to my new account so that you have all three characters and two accounts. Don’t sell research alts. Too damn useful (thus speaks the voice of experience and regret… I miss you Sarah Elkadar!)

Affording two or more accounts usually doesn’t present a problem for me, and I have plenty of ISK from that now-regrettable character sale of Kudon Astraisx.

The idea of Casiella doing PVP can work for me, but the proficiency issue you mention really resonates with me, since I feel like things like T2 weaponry and such would just take away from her invention and manufacturing and even exploration.

I got the box too and all I really wanted was the shuttle and the ability to get right into faction warfare when I restarted (info on that restart in my blog :) ). I was annoyed when I found that I couldn’t do that since I had already made my new character on my other account. So I just settled on transfering myself the new shuttle, and now I’ll completely just ignore the other account (wasted 60 days of play time…oh well)

But as to your question…I don’t see a problem with it. And anyway…you main is the character you say it is…you if you wanted you could have a main pvp noob, and an alt with 16mil SPs. (plus with the 2x training up to 1.6mil SPs…you can get your frigate pvp skills trained pretty quickly.

I think if you regretted it the first time, don’t do it again. Just keep him, what harm could it do?
