To spur the development of EVE Online-related worlds in Metaplace, Ecliptic Rift proudly announces our sponsorship of the EVE World Design Contest!
EVE players can develop any sort of EVE-themed worlds in Metaplace: station venues, ship interiors, games, applications using the EVE API, anything. As long as it relates to EVE Online, it qualifies. Imagine creating your own “walking in stations” expansion for socialization or roleplay, complete with a lounge, dancers, and gambling. Or perhaps you’d like to access market and corporate data in an EVE-themed setting while doing background checks and looking at your orders and contracts. No limits!
Prizes include:
- First Prize: 30-day Pilot License Extension (PLEX)
- Second Prize: 200m ISK
- Third Prize: 100m ISK
Additionally, all complete entries will receive a teleporter on an EVE Online “hub world” in Metaplace.

What is Metaplace?
Metaplace, at its core, is a platform for building virtual worlds. These worlds can be top-down graphics, side views, or 2.5D isometric. Metaplace works the way the web does, so all worlds and indeed all objects are really URLs. Creators can even write scripts in the popular language Lua and import graphics from the web or Google 3D Warehouse.
What is EVE Online?
EVE Online is a space-themed MMORPG in which players can fight, trade, socialize, or do almost anything else. The EVE universe is “single-sharded”, meaning all players exist in the same game world and their actions can influence outcomes in totally unexpected ways for all users.

- Entries must be completed and submitted by 0001 UTC on 2009-09-01.
- Winners will be announced by 2009-09-04.
- All entries remain the property of their creators, as do any assets, scripts, or graphics developed or used in this contest.
- Worlds will be judged based on creativity, graphics, sound, fun, and usefulness.
- All decisions remain the sole discretion of Ecliptic Rift management (who will not be eligible in the contest).
- This contest is not associated with CCP Games or Metaplace, Inc., who are the owners of their respective copyrights and trademarks.
- Void where prohibited by law.
Oh, and please don’t sue me. I’m just trying to encourage user-generated content and crossover development. If anybody has any legal concerns, please let me know and I will happily work with you.
Update: Arcturus, a Metaplace developer, has graciously offered his help and support with scripting. Feel free to send him a Metamail and he will respond as soon as he can, though of course during business hours that might take a bit…
