Everybody knows that RL matters way more than EVE, of course. But sometimes it reaches out and grabs us.
For those who may not know this part, though, my father-in-law had a heart attack on Friday. He survived, thank God, but he’s still a very sick man. He came home from the hospital today, but not because he was healthier. They’d just gotten him stabilized and so they sent him home due to a lack of insurance (he was laid off from his job in the spring).
His own doctor, though, got the paperwork, and told us in no uncertain terms he needed to go back to the county hospital immediately. So my wife and her sisters bundled him in the car and hauled him down to the ER there, and he’s in the process of getting checked out as I write this.
Real life comes before the escapism of EVE. I’m only playing or blogging when I’m either alone with nothing to do (like this particular moment) or when we have a spare bit of quiet time and I need a distraction. My family comes first (as everyone’s should), so that’s why I haven’t actually done many EVE projects for the last several days.
Hopefully he’ll get better enough to come home and recuperate here, and everyone can go back to our normal lives. I’d greatly appreciate your prayers or positive thoughts or other well wishes. He and I have had our differences, as most men in this class of relationship have, but he did a great job raising my wife, has always worked hard and loved his family, and in most things has tried to be a fine example of what a man should be. And, perhaps most importantly, he’s my wife’s dad and my kid’s abuelito. What hurts them also hurts me.
We’d all rather deal with Internet spaceship drama than RL drama, but don’t forget to log off once in a while and hug the people you love, whomever they may be.
