This is Ecliptic Rift

Fellow blogger Seismic Stan recently asked:

How about a bit of shameless self-publicising and indulgent reminiscing with every blog pack member posting a brief description of what they have blogged about/intend to blog about and links to their best three examples from their own archives. A showcase if you will.

This seems like a fine idea, and I will eventually move the content of this post into a page for newcomers to the blog.

Meta-blogging

'To climb the old town' by occhiovivoI primarily write about exploration, science & industry, and fiction. These reflect my primary interests in the game, focusing on the cyberpunk elements and flavor in EVE as well as the Minmatar. Note that I write fiction and about fiction, including hosting a Friday Flash Fiction series for any and everyone. While I often post semi-IC, other posts simply won’t work that way. So typical posts might include ship fittings for exploration, discussion of the latest news around New Eden, quick guides to various activities, and a bit of fiction (usually to provide background and texture to the events in my own gameplay). This blog averages about one post a day and I try to hit that fairly consistently.

Some posts I’ve really enjoyed writing or discussing include:

I also post my screenshots via Flickr, keep a blogroll of all EVE-focused blogs I can find, and stay active on Twitter. Generally, I only follow accounts that focus exclusively on EVE from @casiella. Otherwise, I follow accounts revolving around gaming, social media, and writing from @technoskald.

Background

When I started this blog a year and a half ago, I used Wordpress.com and just wanted to emulate my blog idols, folks like Yomma, Kirith Kodachi, Tony, and Mynxee. I had blogged for years in other places, including manually back in the late 90s, before we even knew to call it a ‘blog’. Generally, my blogs centered on personal stuff, math and technology, or network security. But this time felt very different, since I did so as part of a small community of EVE bloggers. That has helped drive me to keep it up even when I took a brief break in 2009.

Prior to EVE, I played Star Wars Galaxies as Joron Darkdust and Kupyi Labe on the Starsider server. I also served for a time as the Roleplay Senator in the Galactic Senate, SOE’s player representation system (somewhat similar to the Council of Stellar Management). During breaks from that game, I played EVE, both with this character and Kudon Astraisx. I later sold the latter character, partly to focus on Casiella and partly because of various unpleasant events surrounding the 17th Minmatar Tactical Wing. Since then, I have dabbled with various other alts, but Casiella has remained my main character for EVE. I no longer play SWG, but I do stay in touch with a few friends from Starsider and continue to keep an eye on SWTOR information…
